Markus Schaffert visited the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg as a guest researcher and lecturer.

In June 2024, Prof. Dr. Markus Schaffert from Mainz University of Applied Sciences visited Paris Lodron University of Salzburg as a guest researcher and lecturer. He was closely integrated into the research group led by Prof. Dr. Franz-Benjamin Mocnik from the very beginning. The group attracted particular interest from the geoinformatics professor in Mainz, as a highly interdisciplinary team works on digital-spatial issues there. The team members have specialized backgrounds in various fields including linguistics, geoinformatics, and philosophy. Accordingly, the Mainz-based researcher benefited from valuable new perspectives that provided impetus for his own research.

In addition to research, the teaching exchange was another key focus of the trip. Both the University of Salzburg and Mainz University of Applied Sciences offer a part-time Master's degree in Geoinformatics. Prof. Schaffert also had the opportunity to give a lecture on “Geoinformatics for sustainable transformation” in the lecture series “Lectures in GIScience: research progress and frontiers”.

A big thank you to the teams of EXDIGIT - Excellence in Digital Science and Interdisciplinary Technologies, the UNIGIS/ZGIS team, and especially Prof. Dr. Mocnik for the inspiring talks and the great time!
