The IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, from September 11 to 15, 2022. Mirjam Lawens from the Department of Water and Urban Water Management will present research results of the EVA project (President’s Innovation Fund) at this year’s congress in the talk “Individual decision-making under uncertainty such as heavy rainfall – creating effective action strategies.”
The project “EVA - Decision-making behavior of different actors in flood preparedness” aims to contribute to a more effective execution of heavy rainfall preparedness concepts in the future. To increase the participation of the different actors and to assess uncertainties in decision-making behavior, innovative methods from behavioral economics were examined to determine their applicability in heavy rainfall preparedness. The individual behavior of the actors in flood preparedness is to be realistically represented using methods from what is known as prospect theory.
The World Water Congress, with over 10,000 attendees and more than 300 exhibitors, is one of the world’s largest trade conferences in the field of water and wastewater and is held at regular intervals in different countries. Under this year’s slogan “Shaping Our Water Future – Water for smart liveable cities”, a space is to be offered that enables the exchange of ideas, stimulates change and promotes innovative research to create a water-conscious world.
