Dual degree programs, which combine studies and vocational training, are an important part of the practice-oriented education at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. With the aim of reinforcing and further developing this aspect together with our practical partners in the region, the Engineering Dual@HS Mainz information and networking event for current and future practical partners was held in the LUX Pavilion in Mainz city center on May 13, 2024. In addition to the established dual bachelor’s degree programs Applied Informatics dual (Public Service) B.Sc. and Technical Property Management dual B.Eng., the new degree program Civil Engineering dual B.Eng. was also unveiled, which is due to start in the winter semester 2024/2025.
Moderated by Julia Schneider, the university’s Business Partnerships Coordinator, who is also responsible for the central coordination of dual degree programs, the event on May 13th offered around 40 company representatives the opportunity to get to know the three degree programs in detail and discuss possible collaborations in a relaxed atmosphere over a snack of sausage and rolls, accompanied by wine, better known locally as Worscht, Weck und Woi. The aim was to promote networking between the university and potential practice partners for the dual degree programs at the School of Engineering and to further expand existing collaborations.
The three degree program directors, Prof. Dr. Thomas Klauer (Applied Informatics dual (Public Service) B.Sc.), Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Garg (Civil Engineering dual B.Eng.), and Prof. Thomas Giel (Technical Property Management dual B.Eng.), each gave a condensed presentation of their respective dual degree programs. This was followed by a moderated discussion with Julia Schneider, during which questions from the audience were also answered.
The afternoon provided an excellent opportunity to make valuable contacts and raise awareness of our dual degree programs. Mainz University of Applied Sciences looks forward to future collaborations and positive feedback from the event attendees.
