Supply Chain Case Competition

Students from Mainz University of Applied Sciences participate in Texas

Mainz, February 24, 2025 – Four master’s degree students from Mainz University of Applied Sciences were the only non-U.S. team to participate in the prestigious Supply Chain Case Competition at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. The competition, which took place on February 21, 2025, brought together students from 19 other universities, including some of the best master’s and MBA programs in supply chain management.

The team, comprising Daria Dengler, Dilhan Durant, Til Diehm, and Ole Tech, was accompanied by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Berbner. The students faced strong competition in the group round, including the Iowa State University and Brigham Young University teams, which have dominated in the past.

The challenge of the competition was to develop a strategic solution for Frito-Lay, a leading US manufacturer of snacks and chips. The company was faced with the question of how to cope with the enormous demand during the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

The four students from Mainz University of Applied Sciences came up with a comprehensive and convincing solution and received extremely positive feedback from the panel of judges. Although they were narrowly beaten by the team from Iowa State University and thus failed to make it into the top 3, the competition was a great success.

“I am very proud of our students,” emphasizes Prof. Dr. Ulrich Berbner. “This competition shows in an impressive fashion that our students are also competitive internationally.”

By taking part in this top-level competition, the students at Mainz University of Applied Sciences have demonstrated that they are also able to compete with the best young talents in supply chain management on a global level.
