Patrizia Orth conducts research in the field of digital innovation

Patrizia Orth, Interim Professor at the School of Business, successfully defended her dissertation entitled “Dynamic Capabilities and Key Activities in the Initiation Phase of Digital Innovation” on September 9. She was awarded her doctorate by Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in cooperation with Mainz University of Applied Sciences. Her work was supervised by Prof. Dr. Franz Rothlauf, Chair of Information Systems and CIO at JGU Mainz, and Prof. Dr. Gunther Piller, President of Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences.

As part of her doctoral thesis, the information systems specialist investigated the skills that companies need in the initial phase of digital innovations and the key activities that shape these skills. These include, for example, recognizing technology trends, shaping digital opportunities, and building a digital corporate culture. She has presented her research findings in three scientific publications at various international professional conferences, and another article for a professional journal is currently in the publication phase.

Patrizia Orth is a product of our university, in particular of Information Systems. She completed both her Bachelor’s degree in Business Information Systems and her Master’s degree in IT Management while working as a system administrator in the private sector. After completing her Master’s degree, she decided to transfer to the university as a research assistant and assistant to the Information Systems and Applied Informatics Department and begin a doctorate. Since February 2024, she has been an Interim Professor of Information Systems and provides teaching support in various lectures in the field of information systems and digital business models.
