Dr. Marcel Hauck appointed Professor

Dr. Marcel Hauck has held the position of Professor of Media Informatics at the School of Business since March 1, 2025. His research and teaching activities focus on the development and evaluation of IT systems in the media.

The 38-year-old also works as a professional media IT specialist, enabling him to actively combine theory and practice. He has been responsible for software development for recommendation systems at ARD Online since early 2023. In this role, he plans, develops, and tests the algorithmic recommendations of the ARD Mediathek and ARD Audiothek. In his cooperative doctorate at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and Mainz University of Applied Sciences, he previously focused on the impact of recommendation systems in public media libraries.

Prof. Dr. Marcel Hauck’s academic career began in the winter semester of 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Media, IT & Management at the School of Business. He then completed a Master of Science in Media Informatics at Trier University of Applied Sciences, graduating with honors from both degree programs. In the meantime, he was a research assistant, team leader, and interim professor at Mainz University of Applied Sciences.

Prior to this, Professor Hauck worked at Sparkasse Rhein-Nahe for twelve years, initially in IT and subsequently in online marketing. He also completed vocational training as an IT specialist there. During this time, he additionally managed a start-up that specialized in the development and marketing of online stores.
