Open Festival Mainz 2024

[Translate to English:]

A tour of the creative and media industry in Mainz

Selected agencies, studios, and creative professionals will be introducing themselves on June 27, 2024, during a unique tour of the creative and media industry in the state capital of Mainz. It will be a day full of insights, dialogues, encounters, and experiences.

Students at Mainz University of Applied Sciences develop event series

There are a large number of agencies, offices, studios, production companies, freelancers, and companies in the creative and media industry in Mainz and the surrounding area. Many of these were founded by students at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. To visibly expand our connections to this creative and media industry, students in the Communication Design degree program at the School of Design are developing and organizing a tour, routes, and the entire event for all students at the university and for residents of the state capital during the 2024 summer semester. Silke Philipps-Deters, head of the Designforum Rheinland-Pfalz, and Gregor Ade, Professor of Corporate Design and Vice President for Communication and Community Outreach at Mainz University of Applied Sciences, are leading the student project.

“With this concept, we are shining a spotlight on the large creative and media industry in the state capital city of Mainz. Students and members of the public will gain concrete insight into this diverse, dynamic, and economically strong industry,” said Prof. Gregor Ade. Photo and film studios, digital agencies, broadcasters, copywriters, illustrators, architecture and interior design firms, design agencies, and marketing teams make up a diverse creative and media industry in Mainz. On June 27, around 140 students and interested individuals will have the opportunity to explore around 30 agencies, studios, and freelance professionals in the Mainz creative and media industry in seven groups. The starting and finishing point of the tours is the Gutenberg Digital Hub on the Rhine. In the evening, all participants are invited to a get-together and networking event at the Gutenberg Digital Hub with all agencies and creative professionals. Ticket sales are open, registration is required.

The tours are the cornerstone of a growing program of events at the Gutenberg Digital Hub. To better reflect this openness, the previous event name Open Eyes has been changed to Open Festival Mainz. The Open Eyes concept was developed in 2018 by two Communication Design students. After two successful pilot events in 2019 and 2020, the series will now beheld for the fourth time in 2024. The Open Festival Mainz is a project of Mainz University of Applied Sciences and the Rhineland-Palatinate Design Forum descom, in cooperation with the state capital city of Mainz, the Gutenberg Digital Hub, and the Rhineland-Palatinate Innovation Agency.
