New opportunities in tax law

Taxation certificate degree program starts in the 2025 summer semester

Starting in the 2025 summer semester, Mainz University of Applied Sciences is expanding its range of continuing education courses with the Taxation certificate degree program. “This flexible study model enables interested students to complete individual modules from the Master of Taxation or the entire certificate program, without any professional experience or prior knowledge of tax law,” explains Prof. Dr. Ingeborg Haas, Degree Program Director.

The certificate program has the same content as the master’s degree program, but without the obligation to write a master’s thesis. This means that students can switch to the master's degree program at a later date. The modules completed during the certificate degree program are recognized there, emphasizes Inge Haas. The modules can be taken with examinations such as written exams or without examinations as needed. In both cases, participants receive a certificate, which is either graded or ungraded.

Suitable for both professionals and beginners

The certificate program is aimed at professionals and experts who would like to refresh or expand their knowledge of tax law, as well as career changers and interested individuals with no prior knowledge of tax law. The curriculum corresponds to the level of the tax consultant exam.
Successful participants also fulfill the requirements of the Regulations for Attorneys Specialized in Certain Areas of Law (FAO) for the theoretical part of the Attorney for Tax Law or the mandatory continuing education in accordance with Section 15 of the FAO. Individual modules can also be taken for continuing education, with certificates being issued as proof of continuing education in accordance with Section 15 of the FAO.

Direct access to the Master of Taxation LL.M

The Taxation certificate degree program also offers an ideal introduction to the Master of Taxation LL.M. The master's degree program requires at least six months of relevant professional experience. Those who do not yet meet this requirement can complete the certificate program first. The modules taken during this program are credited 100% towards the master’s degree. This enables a seamless transition to a higher semester of the regular degree program. Tuition fees currently amount to 2,500 Euro per semester, plus a semester fee of 305 Euro.

The bottom line: a flexible and practical program

Whether you are just starting out in your career, changing careers, or are an experienced tax expert, the Taxation certificate degree program offers everyone the opportunity to acquire tax law skills at the highest level and develop them individually.
