A look back at the events at LUX

Hunger for knowledge at closing time: In the Meenzer Science-Schoppe happy hour event series, researchers from the member institutions of the Mainz Science Alliance bring current research to the table in a relaxed atmosphere. They answer questions from the audience and invite lively discussions.

Mainz University of Applied Sciences was featured twice in the 2024 program. Prof. Dr. Pascal Neis from the School of Engineering kicked off this year’s  Science Schoppe series in March in the LUX Pavilion of Mainz University of Applied Sciences. In his presentation entitled Das digitale Mainz: Eine Erkundung der im Internet verfügbaren Datenlandschaften (Digital Mainz: An exploration of the data landscapes available on the internet), he took the interested listeners on a journey of discovery into the diverse data landscapes. The talk offered fascinating insights into the data and information about the city available on the internet. The focus was on the three subject areas of parking space analysis, residential area ratings, and police reports.

Prof. Dr. Susanne Rank and Jacqueline Zwiener, both from the School of Business, concluded the year in December by presenting their work at the LUX Pavilion under the title Workplace CSR Analysetool – Wie nachhaltig agiert mein Unternehmen für die Mitarbeitenden? (Workplace CSR Analysis Tool - How sustainable is my company for its employees?). Sustainability is becoming increasingly important for companies, especially as they will be required to disclose their impact on the environment and society starting in 2025 in accordance with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Prof. Rank and Jacqueline Zwiener, who are conducting research as part of the EMPOWER collaborative project, presented an analysis tool that determines the maturity level of workplace CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). Attendees of the Science Schoppe learned how the tool works and how companies can use it to successfully shape their sustainability transformation.

The interested questions from the audience and the relaxed exchange as equals were highlighted as particularly rewarding by the visitors to the two Science Schoppe happy hours at the LUX Pavilion.

Next year, the events of the Mainz Science Alliance will be held under the theme Mensch und Lernen (People and Learning). The Science Schoppe take place from March to May and from October to December on the first Wednesday of the month. The venues are wine bars, pubs, or special locations.
