A look into the future of streaming and media libraries

The Mainz Digital Congress MADKON took place for the sixth time on Friday, December 8, 2023. The congress was co-organized for the first time by Mainz University of Applied Sciences and the IT Klub Mainz & Rheinhessen e.V. After focusing on the main topics of recent years – including digital reality, digital sustainability, and digital intelligence – MADKON23 #digitalstreaming shed light on the current developments and future prospects of digital streaming and media libraries. Some 360 representatives from politics, business and universities took the opportunity to exchange ideas. Around 150 people were on site in the LUX Pavilion at Mainz University of Applied Sciences; a further 210 participants joined the event virtually using the livestream.

MADKON23 offered three subject areas dedicated to public media (ARD, WDR, ZDF), service providers ( including all eyes on screens, TeraVolt) and European developments (including Euro 2024, European Broadcasting Union). Highlights included presentations on the importance of live streaming in sports and corporate communications, innovative measurement systems for recording TV and video usage, and insights into the new ARD/ZDF streaming network.

Experts from TV channels, the advertising industry, and service providers contributed to a lively discussion with their experiences and insights. Student start-ups (including phont.ai) were also showcased. The congress provided an ideal platform for exchanging ideas, networking, and promoting innovation in this dynamic sector of the digital media world.

Prof. Dr. Sven Pagel, head of the WIMM research group at Mainz University of Applied Sciences and member of the IT Klub board, was very pleased, stating “We are delighted that we were able to attract so many interested participants and put together an exciting program of regional, national, and international speakers!”

The feedback from participants was also consistently positive, underscoring the relevance and timeliness of the topics covered. MADKON has established itself as an important forum for discussing future developments and challenges in the field of digitalization. Speaker Christian Nienaber, CCO of all eyes on screens, was enthusiastic about the active interest and inspiring questions from the audience, commenting “Great event, super location, very well organized, super interested audience, lots of questions afterwards, it’s really fun!”

Mainz University of Applied Sciences and the IT Klub Mainz & Rheinhessen e.V. would like to thank DCCS, the State Capital of Mainz, and Accso for their financial support.
