After a long break due to the COVID-19 pandemic and multiple online events, the time had finally come on June 5: Students had the opportunity to take part in the first in-person Careers in the Region event in the Mainz University of Applied Sciences auditorium.
This career fair is a joint event organized by Mainz University of Applied Sciences, Johannes Gutenberg University (JGU) and the Economic Development Agency of the City of Mainz. It gives Mainz students and graduates the opportunity to get to know companies in the region better while also looking for a job or internship.
Communication and media were the main focus of the event. Around 100 students from Johannes Gutenberg University and Mainz University of Applied Sciences as well as other interested individuals came to find out about the participating companies and career opportunities after their studies. The spotlight was also on working student jobs and questions about the structure of degree programs, and many of those interested took the opportunity to get an idea of the requirements of the respective industry.
Südwestrundfunk (SWR), the VRM publishing group, 3st, Autorenkombinat and Schott Music were all there to provide information. After brief presentations by the individual companies, there was an opportunity to talk to the representatives at bistro tables. This opportunity was intensively utilized by the students, resulting in a lively exchange at the stands right up to the end of the event.
The next Careers in the Region fair will take place at JGU in fall 2023; the topic will be announced well in advance.
