The Information Systems & Media 2023 project competition took place on November 9 in the auditorium of Mainz University of Applied Sciences. Eight student teams competed against one another live and on site with their projects in four categories.
More than 300 students from the Information Systems, Digital Media, and IT Management degree programs and representatives from companies voted for their favorites and determined the winners. In addition to the Media Prize, Innovation Prize, and IT Prize, the Impact Prize was awarded for the first time. Projects that have a social impact were nominated for this award. What is special about these projects in particular is that they were carried out in collaboration with students from our partner university Symbiosis Centre for Information Technology in Pune, India. The first interdisciplinary team of Business Administration, Digital Media, and Information Systems students to enter a project for the IT award also made its debut.
In the end, four happy winning teams were chosen, reflecting the entire range of student projects – from an app for digitally enhanced city tours to a booking system for wall boxes, a music box for children, and stroke prevention using machine learning.
In addition, two bachelor’s and three master’s theses were recognized as the best theses. The bachelor’s thesis by Johannes Reiter, who also received the Best Paper Award for his thesis at the international Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference (GECCO) in Lisbon, is deserving of special mention. Three IT Management graduates came out on top in the master’s thesis category, each achieving the top grade with their thesis.
We would like to express our congratulations to all the winners, and are already looking forward to the next one.
