Prof. Dr. Anett Mehler-Bicher has been re-elected Vice President for Research and Transfer at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. On Wednesday, December 6, 2023, the Senate re-elected the incumbent Vice President to the Executive Board by a large majority following her nomination by the University President. Prof. Dr. Mehler-Bicher will begin her second term of office on March 1, 2024. “I am delighted to be re-elected and look forward to taking on many exciting challenges over the next four years,” said Prof. Dr. Mehler-Bicher.
The election took place under the leadership of the Chairman of the Election Committee, Prof. Dr. Karl-Albrecht Klinge. President Prof. Dr. Susanne Weissman had previously nominated Prof. Dr. Mehler-Bicher for an additional term of office. “My heartfelt thanks go to Prof. Dr. Mehler-Bicher for her outstanding achievements and tremendous commitment. I look forward to the coming years as we continue to make significant progress in research and transfer at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. With her re-election, the Executive Board team will be able to rely on continuity in its work, which will bolster the ongoing development of the university,” emphasized Prof. Dr. Weissman.
As Vice President for Research and Transfer, Prof. Dr. Anett Mehler-Bicher is responsible for the strategic development of the research and transfer profile of Mainz University of Applied Sciences. Other central topics include fostering up-and-coming young academics, expanding the research infrastructure and research data management, professional development and increasing start-up activities. She also heads the EMPOWER cross-university transfer alliance.
In her second term of office, the Vice President intends to play a key role in the finalization and implementation of the right to award doctorates for universities of applied sciences (HAW) in Rhineland-Palatinate. She would also like to further boost interdisciplinary research by establishing interdisciplinary clusters of expertise on the topics of artificial intelligence (AI), data science, building information modeling (BIM), immersive technologies and user experience (UX) at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. In terms of transfer, she aims to facilitate the development of formats and topics that raise the profile of transfer, for example as part of the EMPOWER alliance, strengthen skills development for transfer projects with the Transferlab and expand activities relating to citizen science. Additional goals include promoting the establishment of start-ups, particularly with regard to social and sustainable aspects, and developing and implementing a concept for advanced professional development.
Prof. Dr. Anett Mehler-Bicher was appointed to a professorship in Information Systems at Mainz University of Applied Sciences in late 2002. There, she developed various Information Systems degree programs and has been Director of the part-time IT Management M.Sc. degree program since 2011. From 2012 to 2020, she was Dean of the School of Business. She has been Vice President for Research and Transfer at Mainz University of Applied Sciences since March 1, 2020. She studied mathematics with computer science and a minor in business administration at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and received her doctorate from Otto Friedrich University Bamberg in 1996. During this time, she also worked as a lecturer at the European Business School and as managing director of a consulting firm.
