Girls' Day 2024 at Mainz University of Applied Sciences: Experiencing technology from a new perspective
Mainz University of Applied Sciences is participating in the nationwide Girls' Day again this year and opening its labs and workshops to girls who are school students and interested in exploring technology careers and fields of study. On April 3, 2024, the program includes practical workshops on robotics, drone technology, 3D data processing, and cartography.
In the workshop “Roberta – konstruiert euren eigenen Lego-Mindstorm-Roboter” (Roberta – design your own Lego Mindstorm robot), girls in grades 4 to 6 will learn how a robot recognizes obstacles and moves autonomously. In another session, participants from the 6th grade onwards can experience how digital 3D models are created from drone images.
In the workshop “Wie Computer 3D-Räume verstehen” (How computers understand 3D spaces), students in grades 7 to 12 will explore point clouds and artificial intelligence. The program is rounded off by a workshop on digital cartography, where students can create their own maps and develop visual representations of geodata.
These events show how versatile and creative technological disciplines can be and the practical relevance of their teaching at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. The university regularly takes part in Girls' Day to give girls an early insight into technological fields of study and careers.
