A look back at Information Day 2023

Exceptionally communicative, modern, a personal atmosphere, exciting projects – these are just some of the comments voiced by visitors to this year's Information Day. Around 900 prospective students came to the campus in gorgeous spring weather to get an overview of the degree programs offered by the three Schools of Design, Engineering, and Business, or to ask detailed questions about a (nearly) already made decision to enroll in a degree program. Together with the attendees, who followed the auditorium program online via live stream, about 1200 prospective students made use of Information Day of Mainz University of Applied Sciences to find out more about studying here.

Large numbers of attendees took the opportunity to listen to lectures on the individual degree programs, semester projects, and final theses; to explore the library with its wide range of specialized literature and its modern workstations; and to talk to prospective students, students, and professors. The portfolio consultation offered by the Communication Design degree program also generated a great deal of interest, and in the auditorium, which was well attended from start to finish, the stage was set for an extensive stage program, which more than 300 online attendees watched via live streaming on YouTube. Here, students and lecturers presented current projects from research and teaching in moderated dialogues. The degree programs in Interior Design and Civil Engineering presented examples of sustainability in technology and design with pieces constructed from bamboo. In the project Politics of Design, students from the Time-Based Media degree program explored the question of how media creators can influence political processes and social developments with the products they design. Graduates of the degree program in Business Law talked about their professional experiences abroad.

“An international perspective, interdisciplinary approach, climate change, and digitalization are central themes we explicitly aim to address in teaching, research, and transfer,” emphasized Prof. Dr. Susanne Weissman, President of the university, in her welcome address in the packed auditorium, while also pointing out what defines the spirit of the university: its creative atmosphere arising from the interaction and mutual inspiration of three complementary schools with different departmental cultures – to be united under one roof in the coming year.

For those who missed any part of the stage program and want to watch everything or some selected project presentations again afterwards, you can find a recording of the live stream on the homepage at hs-mz.de/infotag.
