The Bad Wiesseer Kreis met under the motto Future prospects for universities of applied sciences. Strengthening research & expanding the range of degree programs from November 14 to 15 in Berlin. The heads of more than 70 universities of applied sciences (HAWs) met with representatives from German federal politics and other stakeholders from science and research funding at the Saxony-Anhalt State Representation to discuss issues relating to application-oriented research and its funding at HAWs, the need for skilled workers, teacher training at HAWs and strategies for further development in competition with other educational institutions.
In addition to the Minister of Science of the State of Saxony-Anhalt, Prof. Dr. Armin Willingmann, and the President of the German Research Foundation (DFG), Prof. Dr. Katja Becker, State Secretary Dr. Jens Brandenburg from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) was also a guest. The State Secretary discussed upcoming BMBF projects with the participants, such as the launch of the German Agency for Transfer and Innovation (DATI) and the extension of the program Research at HAWs. The participants then adopted a resolution to delay the decision on the Research at Universities for Applied Research program.
