We are pleased to announce the successful launch of the double degree program in the Bachelor in International Civil Engineering (BaICE) degree program in cooperation with our American partner university, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE).
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Mainz University of Applied Sciences and the Department of Engineering at SIUE will work even more closely together in the future to establish a joint double degree program in the Bachelor of International Civil Engineering (BaICE). This program will enable students from Mainz University of Applied Sciences and SIUE to each obtain a degree from the respective partner university.
Over the past two years, Prof. Dr. Alfons Buchmann (Director of the Bachelor in International Civil Engineering degree program), Claudia Schröder (Degree Program Coordinator of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering) and their American colleagues Prof. Dr. Ryan Fries and James Monahan have worked intensively on developing this program. Their commitment and the convincing concept also convinced the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
Thanks to the successful acquisition of funding by Prof. Dr. Alfons Buchmann and Claudia Schröder, three students from the International Civil Engineering degree program will now receive full-time scholarships each year for a twelve-month stay in the USA to obtain their double degree. The first exchange will commence in August of this year.
After a competitive application and selection process, three outstanding students were awarded the scholarship: Laura Trübner, Frederic Dimitri Kadje Silokta, and Taushif Ahmad. These three students will be the first to travel to Edwardsville to continue their degree program as part of the new double degree program.
This program marks an important milestone in the continued development of our degree program and offers participating students excellent opportunities to gain international experience and expand their professional and intercultural skills in addition to earning an additional American bachelor’s degree.
