As part of the university-wide DAAD project “Internationalization at Home” (I@H for short), Professor Dr.-Ing. Stephan Mai visited our partner university University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad & Tobago from November 1 to 7.
There, Professor Mai held talks on the intensification of the student exchange between the civil engineering degree programs of the two universities and he met with, among others, Professor Edwin Ekwue (Dean of the Faculty of Engineering) and Dr. Festus Olutoge (Head of the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department). It was also an opportunity to meet former UWI exchange students who had previously spent time abroad at Mainz University of Applied Sciences.
During his week-long stay at UWI, Professor Mai also gave two guest lectures on topics related to hydraulic engineering and water management, and visited the teaching and research laboratories of our partner university.

Professor Mai’s visit was preceded by a visit to Mainz University of Applied Sciences by Dr. Lee Leon of the Faculty of Engineering in June 2022.
The St. Augustine Campus of the University of the West Indies is located just outside Port-of-Spain, the capital of Trinidad and Tobago. North of Port-of-Spain is the Northern Mountain Range, blanketed with tropical rainforest. Trinidad is a biodiversity hotspot, although it is also the most industrialized island in the Caribbean.
We look forward to continued collaboration with UWI and many student and faculty exchanges!
