Seven high school students from the German School Guayaquil in Ecuador recently visited Mainz University of Applied Sciences as part of a Germany-wide university tour. The visit was organized by the DAAD-funded project Betreuungsinitiative Deutsche Auslands- und Partnerschulen (BIDS Mainz) in collaboration with the International Preparatory and Language Center (ISSK).
BIDS Mainz is a joint project of the Mainz University Consortium, consisting of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, the Catholic University of Applied Sciences and Mainz University of Applied Sciences. The BIDS Mainz team supports graduates from German schools abroad and partner schools in choosing a degree program, provides information about studying in Mainz, and helps with questions about applications and getting settled in a new environment.
As part of the program for their visit, the students took part in taster lectures, academic advice sessions, workshops, and tours of the campus and city. In the morning, the group visited the International Preparatory and Language Center at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. In the afternoon, the program included the “Potential Analysis” workshop run by Tim Herrscher at Mainz University of Applied Sciences.
Alongside information events and fairs held in person and online, BIDS Mainz also offers motivational scholarships, buddy programs, and regular meet-ups. A large network of partner schools also supports the initiative.
