Mainz, December 10, 2024 – The state of Rhineland-Palatinate has presented the Academy Award to Prof. Dr. Sven Pagel, Professor of Information Systems and Media Management at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. The award, which is endowed with 25,000 Euro, recognizes his exemplary achievements in research and teaching. Minister of Science and Health Clemens Hoch and Academy President Prof. Dr.-Ing. Reiner Anderl presented the award at the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz. In his acceptance speech, Prof. Dr. Sven Pagel emphasized: “This award is a great honor and recognition as well as a responsibility that I am committed to.”
Prof. Dr. Pagel has been teaching and researching at Mainz University of Applied Sciences since 2014. His focus is on digital moving image communication, user research, and digital transformation. In his teaching, he focuses on practical relevance and interaction, supported by collaborations with partners such as ZDF and Schott Music. He is also the director of the bachelor's degree program in Digital Media and supervises doctoral candidates in collaboration with universities. “As a university, we are particularly proud that this is the third time that a colleague with a wide range of commitments has been honored with the Rhineland-Palatinate Academy Award,” said Prof. Dr. Susanne Weissman, President of Mainz University of Applied Sciences.
The Minister of Health and Science, Clemens Hoch, also congratulated Professor Pagel on his award: “In bestowing the Academy Award, the focus is not on recognizing an individual scientific achievement. This award aims to honor the entire person in teaching and research and also to honor a person whose work has a formative effect on students and thus promotes the young generation to a special extent. Professor Sven Pagel's commitment meets the criteria of the award in an exemplary manner.”
The chair of the panel of judges for the Rhineland-Palatinate Academy Award for Research and Teaching, Prof. Dr. Margret Wintermantel, highlighted Sven Pagel’s commitment to his students in her congratulatory remarks. His commitment is also evident outside the university, for example in schools in the state. She also emphasized his commitment to enabling students to spend semesters abroad to ensure they are internationally competitive.
As part of the award ceremony, Prof. Dr. Pagel gave a lecture entitled Menschenzentrierte Innovationen für Digitalmedien an der Schnittstelle von BWL, Kommunikationswissenschaft und Medieninformatik (Human-centered innovations for digital media at the crossroads of business administration, communication science, and media informatics).
