The combined Bachelor’s degree program in Geoinformatics and Surveying, a joint program between Mainz University of Applied Sciences and the Ministry of the Interior and Sport, has been extremely successful for 10 years. The anniversary was celebrated with a ceremony at LUX.

To mark the tenth anniversary of the combined Bachelor’s degree program in Geoinformatics and Surveying, the Ministry of the Interior and Sport of Rhineland-Palatinate and Mainz University of Applied Sciences held a ceremony at LUX on October 2, 2024 with around 100 prominent invited guests from the worlds of politics and business.

State Secretary Daniel Stich from the Ministry of the Interior and Sport emphasized the excellent cooperation between the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Economics and Finance, and Mainz University of Applied Sciences in the conception of the Geoinformatics and Surveying Combined Studies program since 2014. In his welcome address, State Secretary Daniel Stich from the Ministry emphasized the extremely constructive collaboration between the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Economics and Finance, and Mainz University of Applied Sciences in the conception and establishment of the Geoinformatics and Surveying Combined Studies degree program. President Dr.-Ing. Jörg Kurpjuhn from the State Office for Surveying and Basic Geodata outlined the current technical challenges and Prof. Dr. Susanne Weissman, President of Mainz University of Applied Sciences, focused in particular on the strong regional roots of the program.

In a round table discussion, Selina Lorentz (MdI) and Patrick Metz (VermKV Westpfalz), combined students from the program’s very beginning, explained their professional careers in the fields of geoinformatics and surveying. The discussion, moderated by Marco Ludwig (MdI), was a highlight of the ceremony.

The event was rounded off with a review by Hermann-Josef Heinz (former LMR, MdI) of the shortage of engineering specialists that was already evident before 2014, a presentation of the current professional situation by publicly appointed surveying engineer Lena Friedhoff, and an outlook on the future by Prof. Dr. Fredie Kern (Mainz University of Applied Sciences).

Parallel to the ceremony, an exhibition by the Surveying and Cadastral Administration of Rhineland-Palatinate and Mainz University of Applied Sciences at LUX offered insights into the challenging tasks and smart solutions involved in surveying and documenting land.

The Bachelor’s degree program in Geoinformatics and Surveying offers students the opportunity to prepare for the career qualification for the third entry-level position in surveying and geoinformation civil service while studying at Mainz University of Applied Sciences.
