In our double-degree program in cooperation with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE), participating students receive an American Bachelor's degree in addition to their Mainz degree, without having to pay tuition fees!

As the name suggests, a double degree program gives you two degrees: one from Mainz University of Applied Sciences and one from our partner university SIUE in Illinois, USA. This program not only gives you an additional American bachelor's degree in civil engineering, but also makes you part of a global network. You will get to know a new culture and study system and develop your cross-cultural skills.

Program structure

Students participating in the program must have successfully completed the modules of the first four semesters of the Bachelor's degree program in International Civil Engineering. In addition, it is necessary to take the following additional modules at Mainz University of Applied Sciences prior to the study visit at SIUE: Advanced Mathematics, Theory of Technical Systems, Estimating Costs and Pricing, Sustainable Built Environment and Statistics.

There are a series of compulsory and elective courses at SIUE that must be taken in order to obtain the additional American Bachelor's degree. These can be found in the following overview: Example Curriculum

Application

Each academic year, three students from the Bachelor's degree program in International Civil Engineering can qualify to participate in the double degree program with SIUE. Currently, the selected students can be supported with DAAD scholarships for travel and accommodation costs.

The call for applications for places and scholarships in the double degree program 2024/25 has already been completed. The next call for applications for the academic year 2025/26 will begin in November 2024 and run until January 2025. Scholarship holders will be selected in February/March 2025. Information about the call for applications will be posted on the website of Mainz University of Applied Sciences, on notice boards, in OLAT and, if necessary, at information events.
