What's in store for you
Each semester you choose five of the modules offered. Numerous required elective modules give you plenty of opportunities to structure your studies. Some of the modules build on each other in terms of content. In these cases, we recommend observing the intended sequence.
Each module comprises five semester hours per week (HRS/WK) and awards six ECTS credits for successful participation (coursework and exams). The only exception is the required module Project Work with Colloquium in the 3rd semester, as it corresponds to the scope of three modules. It comprises 15 semester hours per week and awards 18 ECTS credits.
Afterwards, you will have six months to write your master's thesis (30 ECTS credits).

The professors propose topics for the project work, which you will work on in groups of two to four students. The project work comprises 15 hours per week and awards 18 ECTS credits.
Here you show here that you can analyse and research a task in the group, that you can develop and present solution concepts. You should evaluate your concepts professionally, and in terms of time and money. Finally, you are required to document, present and defend your project results in writing.

In the 4th semester you have time to write your master's thesis. This gives you the opportunity to prove your ability for independent scientific work. The topic should give you the opportunity to develop your own ideas.
Your advising professor will be at your side throughout the entire time. Together, you will regularly discuss the progress of your work, the intermediate results achieved and also the drafting of the written copy.
At 65 percent, the written thesis accounts for the lion's share of the grade of the master's thesis. There you describe both the outcome of the work and the way you got there. You will also justify decisions on methods or design alternatives. Your participation in the results must be clearly visible.
The thesis ends with a colloquium public within the University, in which you present your results in a 15-minute expert lecture in a clearly structured and comprehensible way, with reproducible conclusions and using modern media. After the lecture, you will have about five to fifteen minutes to answer questions, resolve ambiguities and discuss further aspects. The colloquium contributes 25 percent to the overall grade.
Each master's thesis is rounded off by an internet presentation and the design of a poster (each five percent of the overall grade). You can find specifications and guidelines on formal requirements in the OLAT course virtuelles Geschäftszimmer (virtual business room, only available in German). In the Abschlussarbeitsdatenbank (dissertation database , only available in German) you can find suggestions for possible topics.
