Degree program description

During your studies you will learn how to deal with components of practical computer science with the special methods of recording, management and analysis, as well as the presentation of geo-data from an engineering point of view. The program consists of nine modules and a master's thesis. Each module comprises about 60 hours of attendance per semester and ends with a written or oral exam. Seven of the classroom courses are required modules. They each comprise about seven blocks of courses, which take place every Friday from 10:15 am to 7:15 pm and on Saturdays from 8:15 am to 1:15 pm during lecture times. During your studies you will attend two required elective modules. The course times vary depending on the features of the specific offer. In the required elective course segment, however, we also make sure that on Fridays and Saturdays a reduced range of courses is available, so that you can attend all the courses of study on these two weekdays if necessary. From the consecutive master's degree program Geoinformatics and Surveying you can choose from these required elective modules:
  • Process oriented programming
  • Development of graphical interactive applications
  • Distributed geoinformation systems
  • Interdisciplinary applications of spatial information technology
  • Land management (allows you, for example, access to the internship of the Land Surveying and Cadastral Administration of Rhineland-Palatinate)
The following required elective modules always take place on weekends:
  • Personnel and project management
  • Entrepreneurial activity and marketing

With your master's thesis and an accompanying colloquium you complete your entire academic training. You will look for the topic of your master's thesis in the field of geoinformatics - interdisciplinary relevance is also welcomed. It makes sense to find it in the immediate vicinity of your main occupational activity.

In your master's thesis you will demonstrate your ability to independently analyse and research scientific problems, especially in an interdisciplinary context. You will show that you can identify and structure a scientific research topic. The colloquium and the defense of your research topic will also be included in the evaluation.

After passing the master's examination, you will be awarded the academic degree Master of Engineering (M. Eng.). This title underlines the application-oriented profile of the program and is equivalent to the Master of Science, the profile of which has a theoretifcal orientation.

If you do not meet the study requirements in full or if you only partially fulfil the study requirements, you can also complete your studies with a  University Certificate. Please do not hesitate to contact us.

In the part-time master's degree program, studying while working, tuition fees of 950 euros per semester are charged. This includes all training documents, all access to required software and examination fees.

In addition, there is a registration fee of currently 285 Euros per semester (summer semester 2017). This amount includes all the benefits associated with student status, such as free use of the Rhine-Main public transportation system. Both fees are charged in one amount at the beginning of the semester.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

Educational leave Most of the German states allow employees to be released from work for a certain period of time in order to take advantage of opportunities for further education. For more information, please visit: www.iwwb.de. The degree program is an educational event recognized by the Ministry of Education, Science, Youth and Culture of Rhineland-Palatinate and thus fulfils the basic prerequisite for recognition as educational leave. Educational grant With the education premium, further vocational training is promoted by the state. It sets targeted financial incentives to make continuing education affordable and expand individual career opportunities. Find out more under: www.bildungspraemie.info Tax-related effects

You can deduct all tuition fees and accommodation costs as income-related expenses or special expenses in the annual wage tax adjustment or income tax return.

The design, procurement and operation of spatial IT processing requires specially trained personnel. Potential users are all institutions concerned with planning tasks and the management of extensive spatially related databases in public administration or in companies.

Participants of the master's program are put in a position to take on such tasks, whether at their previous workplace or a new job. The master's degree also gives you access to higher civil service levels a possible doctorate.
