Adriana Josten Reyes

Who are you, what company do you currently work for and what are your responsibilities?

My name is Adriana Josten Reyes and I am currently enrolled in the German-Argentinian master's degree program Maestría Argentino-Alemana at the School of Business of Mainz University of Applied Sciences. I also work as a student trainee at init AG in Mainz as an Associate Consultant in the field of data analysis and risk management. My tasks include the monitoring and reporting of data to produce reports, analyses and illustrative visualizations for customers and project members. Before that, during my studies at Mainz University of Applied Sciences, I completed an internship abroad at the Chamber of Commerce in Paraguay: During my required internship, I was able to gain initial experience in the field of consulting and support companies from various business sectors in establishing themselves in the two partner countries. I was also jointly responsible for projects on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs (BMWK) and the Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUV).

What did you major in during your bachelor’s degree?

I studied International Tourism Management in my bachelor's degree. During my bachelor's degree program, I was already able to gain initial experience abroad in Spain.

Why did you choose the Maestría Argentino-Alemana?

Since I was born in Paraguay, I have a great personal interest in rediscovering my home continent and learning more about Latin America. Studying at the Universidad de Ciencias Empresariales y Sociales (UCES) in Buenos Aires gives me the opportunity to deepen my knowledge of Latin American culture and work practices and to explore professional options in an international context, for example in the field of development aid. It is very close to my heart to be of service to the community. That is why I would also like to develop professionally in this direction. I am convinced that this degree program is the right way to go and that my previous professional experiences are two important building blocks for my career path.

What expectations did you have of the degree program and what makes it unique in your eyes?

I am particularly attracted by the challenge of the semester abroad and the internship abroad. Especially living in a foreign culture and adapting to a new language and an international work environment makes a person more flexible and contributes to becoming independent. My experience abroad so far has helped me to leave my comfort zone and grow. I expect my studies in Germany and Argentina to help me create new and international networks, find my professional path and perfect my Spanish skills.

Is there anything in your studies that is particularly memorable to you?

My fellow students, my professors and the academic advisory service staff of the Maestría Argentino-Alemana are especially close to my heart. They all are always willing to listen to personal and professional concerns, are very helpful and always supportive. I also appreciate the international environment with students from the master's degree program in International Business as well as with the Argentinian students. Also, my internship in Paraguay was a unique experience that inspired me to work in the field of international development. I also worked exclusively with colleagues from Paraguay and really enjoyed the friendly working atmosphere in South America.

How did your studies and the required internship help you in your job search?

The required internship helped me a lot in finding my current job. On the one hand, I am convinced that (international) work experience during my studies is very helpful when looking for a job later on, because employers often attach great importance to it. Secondly, I can confirm that my current employer was very impressed by my required internship in Paraguay. This internship made it much easier for me to start my career.
