Our classes for master’s degree students

Change Management

Students expand their expertise to define comprehensive change management concepts for change programs (such as the implementation plan for a reorganization) and to plan and manage their implementation. They apply the methods and tools of change management to practical case studies. By working in small groups and giving team presentations, students improve their social skills, in particular effective teamwork techniques and public speaking. Current scientific studies on the effectiveness of change management, such as the reliable measurement of willingness to change, are discussed and evaluated.

Developing leadership skills

Students familiarize themselves with the basics of leadership and apply them. They reflect on their own leadership behavior, analyze leadership situations and independently solve typical problems in the organizational environment. They learn to recognize and reflect on leadership ideologies. They also increase their sensitivity to psychological leadership contexts in organizations. They strengthen their self-management, language skills, and ability to work in a team, and train their ability to deal with conflict, criticism, and decision-making skills. In addition, students learn about the importance of communication for leadership in national and international environments.

HR Consulting and Business Psychology
(Option: Specialization in Human Resource Management)

Students expand their professional expertise by gaining insights into selected aspects of business and social psychology. By working on cases from the HR/personnel management sector and in discussion exercises with video analyses in small groups and in the form of team presentations, students train their psychological skills, particularly in leading discussions and HR consulting, enabling them to intervene from a systemic perspective.

Human Resource Management and Leadership Skills

In addition to basic concepts of leadership research, students also acquire up-to-date expertise in the management of employees and in human resource management. They study the employee life cycle and analyze important concepts for controlling human resource management. They familiarize themselves with leadership skills and learn how to apply these skills. They learn how to strategically position HR development and use motivational strategies in a targeted manner. Furthermore, students will reflect on their own leadership, communication, and conflict behavior and how to shape it in a targeted manner. In addition, core aspects of leadership ethics are critically discussed.

Communication and Negotiation

Students first learn about key topics in brain research and communication science, which will be expanded upon with selected aspects of mental and social processes. Building on this, students familiarize themselves with specific negotiation strategies and techniques, which are supplemented with concrete, practical tips.

Leadership and Human Resource Management in International Companies
(Option: Specialization in Human Resource Management)

In this module students acquire knowledge in the following areas:

  • Trends and developments in international human resource management with a particular focus on multinational companies
  • Management and human resource management in multinational companies
  • Intercultural management
  • Comparative approaches to management and human resource management
  • International secondments
  • Industrial relations

Leadership and HRM
(taught in English)

Successful leadership of human resources is one of the key factors to achieve motivated employees and to establish an international company that outdistances its competitors. Practitioners would like to have immediate answers about what to do and how to do it in order to be more effective as leaders. However, it is important for international leaders to understand the complexity of effective leadership across cultures by discussing the leadership and international human resource management (IHRM) theories, current research, and practical concepts. Leaders should also know the relevant aspects of organizational behavior to lead an international team effectively. Let’s read, discuss and train these leadership and IHRM competencies in the context of international companies.

Performance Management

 

In this course, students acquire in-depth knowledge in the field of performance management. This primarily includes:

  • Knowing the basic influential variables, such as input, output, employee potential and development
  • Understanding and applying relevant models from the areas of corporate management, talent management (especially recruiting, performance and potential assessment), employee management, motivation, and retention, as well as remuneration management
  • Understanding the role of managers in performance management
  • Knowing processes, tools and their practical application in the area and applying them in case studies and role play, developing and presenting concepts for solutions to cases presented in performance management

Strategic Human Resource Management and Implementing Innovative HR Concepts
(Option: Specialization in Human Resource Management)

In close cooperation with the HR departments of selected companies, students analyze the concepts and instruments of HR management applied there. This gives students an in-depth and practical insight into the functions and selected organizational areas of human resource management. They exchange ideas with HR practitioners, discuss operational issues, and develop applicable solutions for the HR area. Shortly before completing the module, students present the results of their project to the companies at the company premises and complete the presentation with a written report.

Applied Project in Human Resources and Organization

Students who choose this specialization complete an internship in the HR department of a company as part of their Master’s in Management (full-time) degree program. Parallel to this, they work independently on specific business problems in consultation with the professor acting as their advisor and apply subject-specific concepts and instruments to develop a feasible solution. They document the results of the applied project in the form of a written report, which is assessed by their advisor.
