Teaching

How we view teaching

Teaching staff

Together with our students, we teachers consider ourselves to be at the heart of the teaching and learning process. We give HR topics a “face” in our courses. Our aim is to motivate students to take responsibility for their own learning and encourage them to think critically and act responsibly. We view learning and teaching as interactive processes that include an important social component. With our character and self-competence, we demonstrate authenticity by using our professional experience and enjoyment of teaching to reinforce students' learning success and to apply scientifically sound concepts to business practices.

Motivation to learn

Personal motivation is the key factor in successful learning. We create the right framework by taking the following learning factors into account for students in our courses: autonomy (“I can decide for myself when I will do what”), a sense of competence (“I realize that I can do something”), and social inclusion (“I want to be part of a community”).

We present students with positive challenges and give them constructive feedback on their performance. We also make it clear what students should learn during the semester in and outside of our courses. We point out important strategies, trends, and connections in research and business practices and create opportunities that support self-learning.

Focusing on learning outcomes

For us, a focus on learning outcomes is an expression of the "shift from teaching to learning", the change from lecturer-centered knowledge transfer to the shaping of contemporary teaching and learning conditions. Instead of asking ourselves what learning content we want to teach, we ask ourselves what learning outcomes we want students to achieve. This view is based on our attitude that learning does not automatically result from teaching, but rather has a complex relationship with it.

Focusing on skills

Conceptual thinking based on theoretical knowledge is a necessary element in the professional skills of university graduates. Skills in decision-making and responsibility complement this, which students are expected to master in the context of HR activities at companies. We support students in transforming the knowledge and skills they have acquired into decision-making abilities and challenge them to try out their skills in practical business situations.

Our classes for bachelor’s and master’s degree students

We offer a wide range of HR courses for both bachelor’s and master’s degree students. You can find an overview of our courses here:

Theses

Bachelor’s and master’s theses

We serve as thesis advisors on research topics and in collaboration with companies. Students who would like to write their thesis on a topic related to the field of Human Resource Management should submit their advisor request to a professor in the HR Campus team at least two semesters in advance.
