How do I apply to a master's degree program?
Before you can start your application, you must first register on the online portal of the University and set up an applicant account. To do so, click on the link Register now on the homepage of the application portal and enter your personal data there.
You will be prompted to choose a password and will receive an email upon completion of the registration process. Your account will be activated using the link provided and you can start your application. Please ensure that you have access to your access data (user name and password) at all times. After you have registered and logged in, you will be guided through the application step by step. All obligatory answers are marked with an asterisk (*). If you need assistance with the individual input fields you can click on the info icon. Should you still have any technical questions or questions related to your studies, please contact zulassung(at)hs-mainz.de.
You may submit three equivalent applications under one applicant number.
You can interrupt the online application at any time and begin again at a later point, if you have to research some information, for example. The information you have entered will be saved. The status of the application is then in preparation. You can only work on the application and the related information up until you have submitted it by clicking on Submit application. Please check your information once again before final submission. After submission, changes can only be made when the application has been withdrawn. and the application will not be processed by the university until it is resubmitted.
You can submit another application for a different degree program at any time up until the application deadline by clicking on the button Add application. Submitted applications are initially assigned the status of received. You will be informed by email about every change in the status of your application and referred to the application portal.
After applying online, click on Application letter to print the written version of your application. Furthermore, on this page you can find out what additional documents need to be submitted as hard copies.

- Chronological, gap-free and signed curriculum vitae
- Copy of the certificate of higher education entrance qualification (Abitur, Fachhochschulreife, professional qualification, master craftsman examination or a comparable advanced vocational training examination)
- Exmatriculation certificates for all previous degree programs at universities you were enrolled at after completing your first undergraduate degree program. You can submit this until you enroll at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. Applicants who have not yet successfully completed their studies by the closing date for applications or enrollment due to missing academic achievements must submit their de-registration certificate by the end of the first week of April for the summer semester and by October 15 for the winter semester.
If you have already been enrolled in a master's program or are currently enrolled, you must also provide the following documents within the application period at our university in addition to the required documents. This applies to all previous degree programs in which you were or are enrolled after completing your first undergraduate degree.
- Clearance certificate
Clearance certificates for all degree programs at foreign universities after completion of the first undergraduate degree. - Performance record / grade chart with indication of the ECTS credits, grades, number of attempts including the failed attempts with indication of the preliminary grade point average of your academic achievements to date.
- Summary of the individual modules including the ECTS credits (in German)
- Study curriculum (in German)
Specifically for applicants with foreign educational certificates already recognized in Germany:
- Foreign academic credentials
- Translation of foreign academic credentials (officially certified copy)
- Recognition of foreign academic credentials in Germany (officially certified copy)
- Indication of grade point average in the academic credentials (converted to the German grading system)
- Certificate of a preparatory college if you have attended a preparatory college (officially certified copy)
- Residence permit (for applicants from non-EU member states)
Proof of German language skills
To apply to a Master's degree program, level C1 is required and proof must be provided in the form of:
- German language examination for university admission at least level 2 (DSH-2)
- Goethe Certificate at least C1
- German as a Foreign Language Test (TestDaF) at least TDN 4 in all parts of the examination
- Alternatively: German as a business language (Wirtschaftssprache Deutsch), telc German Ci

- You must have a bachelor's degree from a bachelor's degree program in civil engineering or a comparable degree program with at least 240 ECTS credits or from a comparable diploma program at a national or international university or university of applied sciences.
The degree must have been earned with at least ECTS grade C. If no ECTS grade is shown, the grade point average must not be less than 2.7 (German grading system). - If you have a qualified bachelor's degree in civil engineering with at least 180 ECTS credits, you can acquire further ECTS credits required for the professional qualification of the consecutive master's degree within the framework of the examination schedule (bridge modules).

If you are applying to the master's degree program in civil engineering as an on-the-job part-time program, it is mandatory that you submit a cooperation agreement with your application documents.
- Bachelor's degree and certificate from an accredited degree program in architecture or from a comparable diploma program in architecture at a national or international university or university of applied sciences.
- For applicants who have already completed their studies, the Diploma Supplement must be enclosed.

Bachelor's degree and certificate from the degree program Building and Property Management, Facility Management or in Technical Property Management or a bachelor's degree and certificate, Engineering Diploma from a university of applied sciences or Engineering Diploma from related fields (such as Architecture, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering (Construction), Supply Engineering or Technical Building Services)).
- For applicants who have already completed their studies, the Diploma Supplement must be enclosed.

If you have not yet completed your studies by the application deadline, you must provide proof of your academic performance with a preliminary grade point average and details of the ECTS credits available at that time, close to the date of your application. Depending on the semester applied for, proof of the individual academic achievements may not be issued by the issuing university before 15 May for the winter semester or 15 November for the summer semester. You must provide proof that, with the exception of a maximum of 30 ECTS credits, you have earned all ECTS credits to be earned in the first university degree that qualifies for a profession at the time the application deadline lapses.
Please note: You must complete the missing ECTS credits, study and examination achievements within the course of your first university degree. You may only subsequently submit proof that you have completed your first university degree by the end of the first master's semester.
Interior architecture graduates (bachelor's degree, Engineering Diploma from a university of applied sciences or Engineering Diploma):
- proof of at least three years of construction site-related or
- practical activities related to construction and property management, facility management or technical facility management.
In addition to a degree in engineering, you must also prove your knowledge of mathematics. You may have acquired this knowledge during your previous studies or as part of a separate certificate of achievement.

- Bachelor's degree and certificate or diploma and certificate in the degree program Geoinformatics and Surveying at a national or international university or university of applied sciences.

- Certificate of a qualified bachelor's degree or a diploma from a university or university of applied sciences, or a degree recognized as equivalent by the examination board in a degree program which, according to the examination board, provides evidence of a sufficient basis for the master's program.
- In principle, the following university degrees are recognized, as far as IT-technical knowledge is proven:
civil engineering, architecture, information technology, geography, geology, regional planning, agriculture, forestry, environmental protection and mathematics - In the absence of evidence of IT knowledge and in the case of graduates of other degree programs, the examination board examines the basis, in particular the presence of IT knowledge, on a case-by-case basis.

- Proof of work experience by means of a letter of reference (submission of the employment contract is not sufficient) of at least one year's duration after the first degree.
- Proof of higher education entrance qualification
- Proof of at least four years of work experience, which shows sufficient content-related connections with the selected degree program. Proof should be provided in the form of a letter of reference (presentation of the employment contract is not sufficient).
- Projects and areas of responsibility
- Proof of examination results achieved within the framework of further training measures
- Letters of reference or proof of all relevant practical activities. The certificates, attestations and other supporting documents must be submitted in the form of officially certified copies.
Proof of higher education entrance qualification acquired with vocational qualification with the following:
- IHK or HWK certificate and final certificate of the vocational school or presentation of the final examination of a school-based vocational training regulated by state law (completed vocational training qualification: qualified result of at least 2.5 or better)
- Proof of at least two years' work experience or a comparable activity that followed the qualified completion of a vocational training program leading to a higher education entrance qualification
- Projects and areas of responsibility
- Proof of examination results achieved within the framework of further training measures
- Letters of reference or proof of all relevant practical activities. The certificates, attestations and other supporting documents must be submitted in the form of officially certified copies.
- Bachelor's degree and certificate from a completed degree program in Building and Property Management, Facility Management or in Technical Property Management or a bachelor's degree and certificate, Engineering Diploma (FH) or Architecture or a degree from a foreign university recognized as equivalent.
- For applicants who have already completed their studies, the Diploma Supplement must be enclosed.
- Transcript of records (if not included in the Diploma Supplement)
- Interior architecture (bachelor, diploma engineer (FH) or diploma engineer): proof of at least one year of practical work on a construction site or related to building and property management and facility management.
- Proof of at least one year of practical work experience in the profession after completion of the previous degree program.
- In addition to a degree in engineering, knowledge of mathematics must be proven. This knowledge may have been acquired during previous studies or as part of a separate qualification.
In addition, you must submit the following documents in accordance with Section 35 (1) of the Rhineland-Palatinate Higher Education Act:
- Proof of higher education entrance qualification acquired by Abitur, Fachhochschulreife or subject-related higher education entrance qualification or
- Proof of higher education entrance qualification acquired through a master craftsman's examination or a comparable advanced training examination or
Proof of higher education entrance qualification acquired with vocational qualification with the following:
- IHK or HWK certificate and final certificate of the vocational school or presentation of the final examination of a school-based vocational training regulated by state law (completed vocational training qualification: qualified result of at least 2.5 or better)

Additionally required documents
- Diploma and diploma certificate or master's certificate and master's degree with grade point average (decimal point)
If the documents are not yet available and the grade of the final examination of the first degree program has not been verified, the result of the final examination is evaluated with "1 point" when determining the measurement number for the selection for a second degree program. - Reasons for enrolling in a second degree program

Information on applying
After registering in the application portal for a place at university, you start to enter your application. There you can select the degree and field of study you are interested in. For all master's degree programs, the 1st semester is always preset as the subject-related semester. If you have already spent some time studying at a university, Mainz University of Applied Sciences reserves the right of final placement in the semester on the basis of the documents to be submitted.
Once you have provided all the information, you will find the application under Applications in preparation. You can now make changes until you click on Submit application and submit it online.
Via Add application you can submit further applications for other subjects. You may submit up to three applications to Mainz University of Applied Sciences.
To change an application that has not yet been submitted, click on Edit application. After clicking Submit application, you will no longer be able to process this application. If you want to change any information or have noticed any errors, you must Withdraw application. Subsequently, this application will not be processed by the university until you submit it again. Under Study history please enter whether you have already studied at one or more German universities and whether you have already completed a degree at a German university. The degree program is considered completed if you have completed or will complete all the required academic and/or examination achievements during the current semester of submitting your application.

Under Vocational education please enter whether you have already completed vocational training. - Have you completed public/military service?
Under Completed public/military service, please enter whether you have completed public or military service (such as the German armed forces, civil service, federal voluntary service). Applicants who have completed service will be given preference in the admission procedure in cases where the data is the same otherwise (such as the same grades and same waiting period).
- When writing your first application, you must indicate a higher education entrance qualification (such as Abitur, Fachhochschulreife, vocational qualification).
- You must also provide information on your previous studies to apply to a master's degree program. For example, you will be asked about the degree program, the final grade, the graduation date, etc.
You can make an informal request for exceptional hardship and/or improvement of grade and/or waiting time. If you submit the relevant applications, please submit the supporting documents together with the application documents to Mainz University of Applied Sciences.
