MA admissions requirements

A bachelor's degree from an accredited bachelor's degree program in architecture with at least 240 ECTS credits or from a comparable diploma program in architecture at a national or international university or university of applied sciences.

Please also note that for the master's degree program you are applying to, you must provide proof of a degree with at least ECTS grades A - C. If no ECTS grade is shown, the grade point average must not be less than 2.5. Admission will be decided on the basis of the provisional average grade indicated in your application documents.

Note: If you complete your bachelor's degree with an ECTS grade lower than A - C or a grade lower than 2.5 (if no ECTS grade is shown), your enrollment at Mainz University of Applied Sciences will end at the conclusion of the first master's semester due to the inability to re-register for the next semester. Please note: advanced, transition or bridge modules to compensate for missing ECTS credits from a previous degree with less than 240 ECTS credits will not be offered.

A qualified bachelor's degree with 210 ECTS, Engineering Diploma (FH) or Engineering Diploma in Civil Engineering or a comparable degree program at a national or international university. The final grade must be at least ECTS Grade C. If your certificate does not indicate an ECTS grade, your grade point average must not be less than 2.7.

If you have a qualified bachelor's degree in civil engineering with less than 210 credits - but at least 180 credits - you can acquire further credits with module examinations as part of the examination plan (bridge modules) required for the vocational qualification of the consecutive master's program.

What you additionally have to submit for the on-the-job part-time degree program

If you are applying to the master's degree program in civil engineering as an on-the-job part-time program, it is mandatory for you to submit a cooperation agreement with your application documents.

  • A bachelor's degree from the degree program Building and Property Management, Facility Management or in Technical Property Management or a bachelor's degree, an Engineering Diploma from a university of applied sciences or an Engineering Diploma from related fields (such as Architecture, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering (Construction), Supply Engineering or Technical Building Services (TGA)). Your grade point average must not be less than 2.7 (German grading system). The degree program director decides on the admission of students with a degree from related degree programs.<u5:p></u5:p>

  • Graduates of interior architecture (bachelor's degree or diploma in engineering (FH) or engineering diploma) can be admitted if they can demonstrate at least three years of practical experience on construction sites or in construction and property management, facility management or technical property management.
  • In addition to a degree in engineering, you must also prove your knowledge of mathematics. You may have acquired this knowledge during your previous studies or as part of a separate qualification. The proof must be submitted by the end of the second master's semester. A mathematics bridge course is offered.
Certificate of a qualified degree
  • Bachelor's degree in the degree program Geoinformatics and Surveying with at least 180 ECTS (Grade A-C) or
  • Engineering Diploma (university of applied sciences) or Engineering Diploma in a Geoinformatics and Surveying degree program or
  • in a comparable degree program at a national or international university or university of applied sciences
If, for legal or other reasons, it is not possible to classify the degree in grades, the examination board will make a decision on admission on a case-by-case basis. As part of the assessment test for admission to the consecutive master's degree program of Geoinformatics and Surveying, you are required to state your specific reasons for your choice of degree program and university location in writing (letter of motivation).
  • A university/university of applied sciences degree or equivalent after successfully completing studies in the fields of building and property management, facility management, industrial engineering (construction), civil engineering or architecture or a degree recognized as equivalent from a foreign university with at least 210 ECTS credits.
  • Individuals who hold a higher education entrance qualification in accordance with Section 65 (1) or (2) of the Higher Education Act and who have also completed at least three years of relevant professional activity are admitted to studies in accordance with Section 35 of the Higher Education Act if they have passed an aptitude test which establishes the equivalence of their professional qualification with that of a completed undergraduate degree (with 180 ECTS). The provisions of these examination regulations apply mutatis mutandis to the aptitude test. The examiners are the relevant university lecturers in the bachelor's degree program. The performance and organization of the aptitude test is carried out by the examination board.
  • The examination board decides on admission from related degree programs.
  • Interior architecture graduates (Bachelor, Engineering Diploma (university of applied sciences) or Engineering Diploma) may be admitted if they can provide proof of one year three years of construction site-related or practical activities related to construction and property management or facility management.
  • Graduates of degree programs with less than 210 ECTS credits but at least 180 ECTS credits can also apply. The proof of all missing ECTS credits must be provided by the end of the third semester.
  • You must have proven the completion of the academic achievements defined by the director of the degree program in cooperation with the examination board from the range of courses offered by the School of Engineering, which are necessary to achieve equivalence with 210 ECTS credits, by the end of the 3rd semester. For example, the additional qualification acquired via continuing education to become an expert in energy and environmental technology with the certificate "Consulting" and "Planning and Implementation" with a total of six modules in the degree program Construction and Real Estate Management, Facility Management or the modules identified as bridge modules are recognized as achievements. Here we recommend contacting the student advisory service.
  • Proof of at least one year of practical work experience in the profession after completion of the previous degree program
  • In addition to a degree in engineering, knowledge of mathematics must be proven. This knowledge may have been acquired during previous studies or as part of a separate qualification. The proof must be submitted by the end of the second master's semester. A mathematics bridge course will be offered.
  • Qualified bachelor's degree or a diploma from a university or university of applied sciences, or a degree recognized as equivalent by the examination board in a degree program which, according to the examination board, provides evidence of a sufficient basis for the master's program. In principle, the following university/university of applied science degrees are recognized, as far as IT-technical knowledge is proven:
civil engineering, architecture, information technology, geography, geology, regional planning, agriculture, forestry, environmental protection and mathematics.
  • Applicants who have a higher education entrance qualification in accordance with Section 65 (1) or (2) of the Higher Education Act and who have also completed at least four years of relevant professional activity shall be admitted to studies in accordance with Section 35 of the Higher Education Act if they have passed an aptitude test which establishes the equivalence of their professional qualification with that of a completed undergraduate degree in accordance with Section 5 (1). The aptitude test is held at Mainz University of Applied Sciences.
  • In the absence of evidence of IT knowledge and in the case of graduates of other degree programs, the examination board examines the basis, in particular the presence of IT knowledge, on a case-by-case basis.
  • Proof of work experience by means of a letter of reference (submission of the employment contract is not sufficient) of at least one year's duration after the first degree.
