The steps of the application process with verified German academic qualifications

The application procedure for a bachelor's degree program at Mainz University of Applied Sciences described in the following is aimed at:
  • Applicants with a German university entrance qualification
  • Applicants with foreign educational qualifications who have already had their credentials recognized in Germany and who can submit a grade point average converted to a German GPA
  • Applicants who have successfully passed an assessment test of a preparatory course in Germany and who have received recognition of their foreign educational credentials with a proven grade point average

    How do I prepare?

It is helpful for you to have the necessary documents at hand, to make it easier to provide grades and scores or time periods, for example. So please have the following available: your higher education entrance qualification (Abitur, Fachhochschulreife, etc.), data about your civilian service or voluntary social year and where applicable documents about your vocational education. This is important because the access for each session on the website is limited to 30 minutes. If you have not completed your application within this time period, you will need to log in again. The information you have already entered will be saved. The status of the application is then in preparation. You will also need a PDF program (such as Adobe Acrobat) and a printer, so you can print out the application materials upon completion of the application and send them to the University by regular mail together with the required documents.

Application including participation in the dialog-oriented service procedure (DoSV)

Now that you have familiarized yourself with the degree programs the University offers, your path to starting your studies at Mainz University of Applied Sciences starts with the question:
"Am I applying for a degree program that participates in the dialog-oriented service procedure via hochschulstart.de or am I applying for a degree program where the placements are not allocated via this procedure?"

Mainz University of Applied Sciences is participating in the dialog-oriented service procedure (DoSV) for the summer semester 2024 with the following degree programs:

    • Bachelor of Engineering in Architecture
    • Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial Engineering (Construction)
    • Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering
    • Bachelor of Laws in Business Law
    • Bachelor of Science Business Administration
The dialog-oriented service procedure (DoSV) coordinates the allocation of undergraduate degree program placements with locally restricted admissions on a national level. The background behind this is the current multiple occupancy of study placements by applicants applying to several universities. The advantage of the procedure is that as an applicant, you have a central point of contact for all applications submitted to the DoSV – the platform www.hochschulstart.de  – and can view their status there at any time.

    Step 1: Register at hochschulstart.de

First you need to register at the central coordination center. Go to https://dosv.hochschulstart.de/bewerber/registration. You will be on the page: Application Portal for Courses of Studies with Local Admission Restriction.

To register, please click on Registration. After you have successfully registered, you will receive an email containing an activation link, among other things. Conclude your registration on hochschulstart.de by using the activation link within 72 hours of receiving it. Once again go to https://dosv.hochschulstart.de/bewerber/registration and log in with your user name and password. Under the button My data you will find your applicant identification number (BID) and the related applicant authorization number (BAN).

Please make a note of your BID and BAN, since you must enter these numbers later for the application on the online portal of the University. Your personal information will be automatically imported for the online application with the University.

Please note: Changes in address can only be undertaken via hochschulstart.de.

Step 2: Apply to the University

Before you can start your application, you must first register on the online portal of the University and set up an applicant account. To do so, click on the link Register now on the homepage of the application portal and enter your personal data there.

Please note: If you registered beforehand via hochschulstart.de, you can easily import the data you entered there into the University's portal after entering your BID and BAN by clicking on Import data.
You will be prompted to select a password and you will receive an email after completing the registration procedure. Use the link in the email to activate your account, and then you can begin your application. Please ensure that you have access to your user data (user name and password) at all times.

After you have registered and logged in, you will be guided through the application step by step. All obligatory answers are marked with an asterisk (*). If you need assistance with the individual input fields you can click on the info icon. Should you still have any technical questions or questions related to your studies, please contact zulassung(at)hs-mainz.de.

You may submit three equivalent applications under one applicant number.

You can interrupt the online application at any time and begin again at a later point, if you have to research some information, for example. The information you have entered will be saved. The status of the application is then in preparation. You can only work on the application and the related information up until you have submitted it by clicking on Submit application. Please check your information once again before final submission. After submission, changes can only be made when the application has been withdrawn. In this case, the application will not be processed by the University until it has been resubmitted.

You can submit another application for a different degree program at any time up until the application deadline by clicking on the button Add application. Submitted applications are initially assigned the status of received. You will be informed by email about every change in the status of your application and referred to the application portal. You can find a downloadable overview of the status definitions on the degree program pages.

You will also receive an email from hochschulstart.de in case of any status changes to applications as part of the dialog-oriented service procedure.

Step 3: Send your documents to the University

You can get an overview of the respective processing status of your applications via the application portal of Mainz University of Applied Sciences and on hochschulstart.de. The exporting of data from the University to hochschulstart.de takes place several times a day. Please note that changes to the central page of hochschulstart.de are not necessarily always immediately visible.
